Programmes of Activities

There are a number of ongoing programs to implement the Protocol.

IHA engages with hydropower operators and developers in 'Sustainability Partnerships'. Sustainability Partners receive a package of training and assessments to build capacity to use the Protocol. This program was initiated by IHA and its members and is now rapidly expanding to include progressive organisations from all stakeholder groups engaged with hydropower projects.

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) has also provided significant funding to promote and use the Protocol in less developed countries, under the Developing countries sustainable hydropower initiative.

IHA, as the management entity of the Protocol, has received funding from the Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) to promote and use the Early Stage tool of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol in less developed countries and to support the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council.

Hydro4LIFE was an EU funded program, which ran 2010-2014 to raise awareness, deliver training and undertake assessment within the European Union.
