IHA Sustainability (IHAS) has been providing trainings on hydropower sustainability since 2011. Built on 25 years of hydropower experience, the training courses consolidated the knowledge into a series of online courses following an established framework of sustainability assessment and understanding.

The trainings are targeted at professionals working in both the public and private sectors with an interest in sustainable hydropower development. Participants come from around the world and have included programme managers, environment and social experts, project engineers, independent consultant, developer and operators, NGO representatives, financiers and lenders, operations and dam specialists, and compliance officers.

Training format

IHAS provides the option of either in-person or online trainings.

Online trainings are provided through the Hydropower Sustainability Training Academy. Courses are designed as a blend of live and self-paced learning. Participants take part in virtual classrooms where trainers deliver live stream lessons, lead group activities and host interactive Q&A sessions. To complement the live sessions, participants work on self-paced activities, including reading reports, watching recorded screencasts and completing exercises.
